With employers trying to get the most out of today’s workers, it comes as no surprise that the workforce is facing increased stress. This stress is due to a number of factors, including a poor diet, long overtime and responsibility both at home and at work. With this realization has come the rise of a new profession known as wellness coaching.
Probably the biggest convenience of wellness coaching is the ease of communication. Wellness coaches are available today via e-mail and telephone. These coaches are trained professionals who help address personal needs that are impacting performance at work. While most wellness coaches do not target a specific situation, they can usually provide the advice needed to resolve multiple personal issues. Most wellness coaches have degrees in psychology, meaning that they can help better understand how to address one’s personal needs.
Wellness coaches are noted for their ability to listen to others. Too often do stressed out workers seek dieticians or doctors when hoping to resolve their personal issues. These professionals are only trained in one specific area and are not always available when one is seeking further assistance. Wellness coaches understand the big picture and can serve as supportive advisors.
For those unfamiliar with the wellness coaching process, it is actually quite simple. The first step involves the client completing a health assessment. This assessment considers all of the situations pertinent in one’s life and the circumstances that are the root of the problem. This assessment is then analyzed by a wellness coach. The wellness coach then gets in touch with the client and develops a program that is geared towards addressing each need of the client. This program can be anywhere from weeks to months depending on the severity of the issues that the client is facing. Throughout the program, the client is usually required to schedule periodic meetings with the wellness coach to monitor the project. Some of the solutions that are proposed by the wellness coach include the following:
These solutions may at first seem obvious. However, many fail to realize the importance of these components to one’s everyday lifestyle. In some cases, one may suffer from several of these issues, which can lead to anxiety and/or depression. Obviously, one hopes to avoid these illnesses at all costs. The purpose of a wellness program is to try and maximize the utility that one experiences throughout life. This utility can come from a number of factors but in simplest terms it involves the desire to feel good all the time.
Thanks to today’s technology, wellness coaches are available via phone, e-mail and by appointment. In most cases, a specific individual should set up preliminary meetings with a wellness coach to determine if the coach is a good fit. Once a coach is selected, it is up to the individual to take advantage of the resources that the coach has to offer.
